POEM Craig Blais

NWR Issue 102

Sonnet for Jim Ward (Woodville Highway, Tallahassee, December 9, 2012)

On my way to the memorial service for
a friend I never met who ended it all Monday –
$9.99 RIB EYE and two guys burning a pile
of leaves when a gray bird bounces softly off

the right corner of my windshield...

Craig Blais’ first collection of poems, About Crows, was the winner of the 2013 Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry and came out in May with the University of Wisconsin Press.
