Attention All Authors! New Welsh Writing Awards 2019 Now Live! (23-10-2018)

The New Welsh Writing Awards 2019 is now open for entries across two categories: Aberystwyth University Prize for a Dystopian Novella and the Rheidol Prize for Writing with a Welsh Theme or Setting

Celebrating the best in short form writing, the New Welsh Writing Awards 2019 champions short, unpublished books and is a unique opportunity for both emerging and established writers to showcase their work. A full call for entry by New Welsh Review editor Gwen Davies can be found on the home page of the New Welsh Writing Awards 2019 website. Gwen says:

"The briefs for these two categories complement each other, reflecting the reach and home-base of the New Welsh Review, with the dystopian theme ranging across societies (and possibly universes) while the Rheidol Prize nurtures a closer focus on homegrown subjects and settings, while of course these may wander into the ‘foreign country’ of the past..."

Work submitted to either category must be between 5,000 and 30,000 words and previously unpublished. Further information on the terms and conditions for entry can be found online on the site.

Prizes include, across both categories:

£1,000 cash as an advance against e-publication under our New Welsh Rarebyte imprint (First Prize)
A positive critique by leading literary agent Cathryn Summerhayes at Curtis Brown (First Prize)
£300 voucher towards a week-long course at Ty Newydd Writers’ Centre (Second Prize)
Two-night writing retreat at Gladstone’s Library (Third Prize)
A year-long subscription to the magazine, New Welsh Reader (All Three Prizes)

Both categories will be judged by New Welsh Review editor, Gwen Davies, and she will be joined by the award-winning author and co-judge Cynan Jones for the Rheidol Prize. Entry costs £10 and there are waivers in place for writers on a low income. The closing date is 4 February 2019 for submitting entries, online, via the website.
